Emerald Coast Fishing Update - This Week

Early Morning Trips Keep the Summer Bite Going Strong

Whether you're visiting Panama City Beach, 30A, or Destin, August continues to provide excellent fishing opportunities along Florida's Emerald Coast. I stayed busy on the water this past week, getting six trips in and continuing to find excellent offshore action. The biggest challenge right now isn't finding fish—it's working around the summer heat. That's why we've been getting out early, making the most of the morning bite, and enjoying some outstanding fishing before temperatures really begin to climb.

Inshore Fishing Update

Early morning continues to be the best time to target inshore species during the August heat. Redfish remain one of my favorite fish to chase around the bays and grass flats, and getting on the water early gives us the most comfortable conditions while the fish are actively feeding. Shorter trips have been a great fit for families and anglers looking to enjoy the water before the afternoon heat arrives.

Offshore Fishing Update

Offshore fishing continues to be the highlight this summer. Mahi have stayed on fire, with triggerfish and vermilion snapper providing steady action on nearly every trip. Since the recent storm, we've also been seeing more gag grouper, giving us an exciting preview of what's ahead. While the July red snapper season has ended, September is shaping up to be one of the most exciting months of the year with the return of red snapper, amberjack, and the opening weeks of gag grouper season.

Fresh Catch Recipe Idea

Mahi continues to be one of the hottest fish offshore, making it the perfect time to try my Mahi Fish Taco recipe. It's a simple, fresh meal that lets the flavor of Gulf-caught mahi take center stage after a successful day on the water.

Captain's Tip

“August heat is part of life along the Emerald Coast, which is why I recommend getting out early whenever possible. The morning hours often provide the most comfortable temperatures and some of the best fishing of the day. During the hottest part of the summer, four-hour trips are often the perfect balance, giving you plenty of time to catch fish, enjoy the water, and head back before the afternoon heat really settles in.”

If you're planning a trip from Panama City Beach, 30A, or Destin, now is a great time to get on the calendar. My Inshore Fishing Charters and Offshore Fishing Charters continue producing excellent action, and if you're not sure which trip fits your group best, my Captain's Choice Charter lets me recommend the best option based on current conditions. My Family Fishing Charters remain one of the best ways to introduce kids and first-time anglers to fishing along Florida's Emerald Coast.

I look forward to fishing with you soon.
