Smoked Spanish Mackerel Dip

Ingredients

  • 1 lb smoked spanish mackerel, flaked (skin and bones removed)

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened

  • ¼ cup mayonnaise

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 tbsp horseradish

  • 1 tsp hot sauce

  • 1 tsp Old Bay or Cajun seasoning

  • 2 tbsp green onions, finely chopped

  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

  • ½ tsp black pepper

Instructions

  • Place the smoked mackerel in a bowl and break it into small flakes.

  • Add cream cheese and mayonnaise and mix until smooth.

  • Stir in lemon juice, horseradish, hot sauce, and Old Bay seasoning.

  • Add green onions, parsley, and black pepper.

  • Mix well until fully combined.

  • Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors blend.

  • Serve with crackers, toasted bread, or fresh vegetables.

Grilled Spanish Mackerel Steaks

Ingredients

  • 2 spanish mackerel steaks

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • ½ tsp paprika

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • lemon wedges for serving

  • chopped parsley (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat grill to 400°F and lightly oil the grates.

  • Pat the mackerel steaks dry with paper towels.

  • Brush both sides with olive oil.

  • Season evenly with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.

  • Place the steaks on the grill and cook 4–5 minutes per side.

  • Grill until the fish flakes easily and has good grill marks.

  • Remove from the grill and garnish with chopped parsley if desired.

  • Serve with fresh lemon wedges.
