Snapper and Sharks Bring Early October Action

October fishing is underway along the Emerald Coast, and there’s still plenty to look forward to on the water. Our latest trips produced snapper and sharks, providing a fun combination of classic Gulf fishing and some hard-pulling excitement.

Fall also brings plenty of variety to the waters around Panama City Beach, 30A and Destin. Inshore anglers can continue looking toward redfish, trout and other familiar fall species, while offshore reefs and structure provide opportunities for snapper, grouper, triggerfish and more.

Inshore Fishing Update

October is a great month to spend some time in the bays and nearshore waters of the Emerald Coast. Redfish and speckled trout remain two of the primary species to look for around grass flats, docks, channels and shoreline structure, particularly anywhere bait is concentrated.

Mangrove snapper can provide additional action around structure, while Spanish mackerel and flounder add even more variety to the fall lineup.

For families, younger anglers or anyone who prefers a shorter trip closer to shore, an Inshore Fishing Charter offers plenty of ways to enjoy an October day on the water.

Offshore Fishing Update

Snapper and sharks were the highlights of this week’s offshore trips.

Snapper continue to provide the kind of bottom-fishing action anglers expect from the Gulf, while hooking into a shark can turn an ordinary fishing trip into a completely different experience. They’re powerful fish and can provide a memorable fight when one decides to take the bait.

October’s offshore lineup also includes vermilion snapper, gray triggerfish and red grouper, along with greater amberjack opportunities early in the month. With reefs and offshore structure holding a variety of species, there are several ways to put together a productive day depending on the trip and what’s active.

Fresh Catch Recipe Idea

Snapper is back in the spotlight this week, making it a perfect time to try our Grilled Red Snapper with Lemon Garlic Butter. It’s a simple preparation that lets fresh Gulf fish do most of the work and makes a great dinner after a day on the water.

Captain’s Tip

“Fall fishing gives us options. You don’t always need to head out with one specific fish in mind. Some days the best action might be around the reefs, while another trip can put something completely different on the line. Tell me what kind of experience you’re looking for, and we’ll build the trip around what gives us the best opportunity that day.”

Whether you’re interested in an Inshore Fishing Charter, want to head farther out on an Offshore Fishing Charter, are bringing the kids on a Family Fishing Charter, or would rather let Captain Steve choose the day’s best option with a Captain’s Choice Charter, there’s an October trip that can fit the way you want to fish.

Fall is here, the fish are still active, and there’s plenty of October fishing ahead along the Emerald Coast.
