Emerald Coast Fishing Update - This Week

A beautiful gag grouper and another great day of offshore fishing.

Snapper and Triggerfish Are Keeping the Coolers Full

September fishing is in full swing along the Emerald Coast, and we're seeing some excellent offshore action. Whether you're staying in Panama City Beach, 30A, or Destin, this is a great time of year to get on the Gulf. Red snapper and triggerfish have been the standouts this week, with limits coming on most trips. We've also been seeing gag grouper, and with greater amberjack season underway, there are plenty of reasons to head offshore this September.

Inshore Fishing Update

September is a great time to enjoy an inshore trip around Panama City Beach and the surrounding bays. With so much of my recent fishing focused offshore, I don't have a major change to report from the inshore bite this week. Inshore trips remain a great choice for families, younger anglers, or anyone who prefers a shorter day closer to shore.

Offshore Fishing Update

The offshore bite has been the big story this week. We're catching limits of red snapper and triggerfish on most trips, which has made for some excellent days on the Gulf and plenty of fresh fish heading home with our guests.

We've also caught a few gag grouper, although the ones we're seeing right now have mostly been on the smaller side. Greater amberjack are another September opportunity I'm keeping an eye on. The bigger keeper fish have been holding farther offshore in cooler water, so longer trips give us a better opportunity to reach them. I've got an eight-hour trip coming up, and we'll likely spend some time looking for those bigger AJs.

Fresh Catch Recipe Idea

With red snapper filling coolers again, this is a perfect week to try one of my Red Snapper Recipes. Fresh Gulf snapper doesn't need much—simple seasoning, a little citrus, and a hot grill or oven can make an outstanding dinner after a day on the water.

Captain's Tip

“September gives us more options offshore, but trip length can make a difference depending on what you want to target. Red snapper and triggerfish have been providing excellent action, while some of the larger greater amberjack are holding farther offshore in cooler water. If there's a particular fish you're hoping to catch, let me know when you're planning your trip and I'll help you choose the option that gives us the best opportunity.”

Whether you're looking for an Offshore Fishing Charter, want to stay closer to shore with an Inshore Fishing Charter, are bringing the kids on a Family Fishing Charter, or would rather let me decide with a Captain's Choice Charter, we'll build the day around your group and current conditions.

September is shaping up to be a good one, and I'm looking forward to seeing what the next few weeks bring.
